Common Troubleshooting
What should I do if I’m having trouble connecting to the network from a College PC?
If you are experiencing problems logging onto the network from a PC, and if the “Log on to” box is not showing, please click on the “Option>>” box. From the dropdown box, select “TIGERS” if you are a student, or “UMC-USERS” if you are faculty/staff and try logging in again. (When specifying the domain in this manner, use the short version of your PawPrint in the username field. Do not include an @ sign or address.) If you still cannot log onto the network, please reset the system by shutting down the computer and then powering it back on. If this does not resolve the issue and another system is available, please try the other system to determine if the problem is with the computer or if it’s more general. Report your difficulty to the CVM-IT Help Desk if it remains unresolved.
What are recommended specifications for new personal computers?
A frequent request put to the IT Unit is for advice on specifications for new computers, software and related devices. The best advice depends on the specific needs of the person using the equipment and the environment in which it will be used. So weather you are a student looking for a laptop to handle your next four years, or a faculty member looking for a system to use from home, we invite you to visit the IT office to discuss your needs so we can provide comprehensive guidance.
Who do I contact?
