Mizzou CVM welcomes VM3s to clinical training with white coat ceremony

The University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine Class of 2026 celebrated their progression into clinical training during the annual White Coat Ceremony held Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, at Jesse Auditorium. The ceremony is held to celebrate the successful completion of their didactic studies and the beginning of their hands-on training in the Veterinary Health Center, Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory and during preceptorships in private practices and public agencies on their way to completing their DVM degree.

Amid hugs, handshakes, and a few whoops, 115 members of the CVM Class of 2026 took the next step in their journey to becoming veterinarians. Students selected a family member, friend or mentor to present them with a white laboratory coat, representing their readiness to begin the clinical portion of their professional education.

CVM Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs Timothy Snider, DVM, PhD, welcomed the students and their guests. Dr. Snider also spoke about the diverse career paths that will be open to the future veterinarians.

CVM Dean Srinand Sreevatsan, BVSc, MVSc, MPH, PhD, told the students that they are now ambassadors for the college, and encouraged them to serve as leaders within their profession.

Class President Marika Austad delivered a response on behalf of the class.

Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery Chair John Dodam, DVM, PhD, also offered a welcome “across the parking lot,” as the class begins hands-on training in the Veterinary Health Center and the Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory.

Kacie Ulhorn, DVM, Missouri Veterinary Medical Association president, and Julie Braun, MVMA executive director, also took part in the ceremony, presenting each student in the class with a name badge, courtesy of the Missouri Veterinary Medical Foundation.
