The American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists named Kourtney Dowler, DVM, and her co-authors as recipients of the Best Clinical Science Manuscript Award. The award was announced at the ACVO Conference in Boston, Sept. 20-23. Dowler is a former resident at the University of Missouri Veterinary Health Center. Her award-winning research paper, which she completed during her residency, is titled, “Ophthalmic Viscoelastics Commonly used in Cataract Surgery: A Microbiota Investigation.”
Dowler is now a two-time recipient of the ACVO Best Clinical Science Manuscript Award, which the ACVO presents each year to recognize outstanding resident research. Her first award came in 2021 for her paper, “Characterization of Postoperative “Fibrin Web” Formation After Cataract Surgery.”
Dowler’s CVM co-authors on the paper were Aida Vientós-Plotts, DVM, PhD, DACVIM, assistant professor of small animal internal medicine, Elizabeth Giuliano, DVM, MS, DACVO, professor of veterinary ophthalmology, Rebecca Dorfmeyer, a senior research lab technician in the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, Carol Reinero, DVM, PhD, DACVIM, professor of small animal internal medicine, and Aaron Ericsson, DVM, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology.
