Roman Ganta, PhD, a Curators’ Distinguished Professor and the McKee Endowed Professor of Pathobiology and Integrative Biomedical Sciences, has been selected as a 2026 American College of Veterinary Microbiologists (ACVM) Honorary Member. This honor recognizes his contributions to the study of tick-borne rickettsial diseases, where his expertise and scientific accomplishments have significantly advanced the field and the One Health Mission.
“As a world renown scientist and senior faculty member, Dr. Ganta has been actively mentoring young faculty members in research, especially developing research grants,” said Shuping Zhang, PhD, director of Mizzou’s Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory. “This recognition reflects not only his scientific excellence, but also the influence he has had on shaping future leaders in the field.”
In addition to his research impact, Ganta is celebrated as an exceptional mentor and role model, supporting the growth and success of students, postdoctoral researchers and junior faculty members.
“I am deeply honored with this recognition by the ACVM,” Ganta said. “My passion as a scientist has always been to engage in research with impactful outcomes focused on devising methods of disease prevention. I also greatly value mentoring new generation of scientists through research and training. It is a great blessing to be part of Mizzou and the College of Veterinary Medicine where I enjoy the opportunity to work with excellent colleagues and benefit from exceptional resources and environment.”
