Picking Awarded $3.8 Million Grant by NIAID

Wendy Picking, PhD, a professor of veterinary pathobiology at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and a recent Mizzou Forward hire, recently secured a $3.8 million grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The grant will fund development of a vaccine to prevent colonization of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a hospital-acquired infection that occurs after intubation or catheterization.

CVM Develops Community Chest to Assist Those Experiencing Food Insecurity

PAVE Provides International Students with a Pathway to Practice in the United States

The Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education Equivalence, or PAVE, is a pathway for veterinarians who are graduates of international, non-accredited veterinary programs, to practice in the United States. At the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine there are currently eight students from around the world who are pursuing that opportunity.

CVM Raptor Rehab Houses Harlan’s Hawk for More than 35 Years

The University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine Raptor Rehabilitation Project is tasked with the rehabilitation of hawks, eagles, owls and other raptors that are brought to the facility, with the goal of eventually returning them to the wild. However, there are times when birds are not able to be released due to their condition.

MU Veterinary Health Center Welcomes New Director

A permanent director for the MU Veterinary Health Center started in her new role last week. Gerelyn Henry, DVM, MBA, DACVP, took over the reins on Thursday, Nov. 17. She replaced Joan Coates, DVM, MS, DACVIM, professor of veterinary neurology and neurosurgery, who served as the interim hospital director for more than a year.
