CVM Hosts Annual Veterinary Technician Continuing Education Event

The University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine hosted its fourth annual Veterinary Technician Continuing Education event on Saturday, Oct. 12 in the Adams Conference Center. The event, sponsored by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, allowed veterinary technicians to obtain continuing education credits required to maintain their licensure in Missouri. This year the event hosted 90 attendees including veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants and veterinarians from around the state.

The event offered two tracks to participants, a small animal track and a large animal track, to encompass the interests of all veterinary medical professionals. Included in these tracks were presentations by technicians and veterinarians from the CVM. Speakers centered their talks around the cases and situations they deal with on a daily basis, providing educational insight to participants.

“This brings value by allowing us at the VHC to give back to the community and referring veterinary hospitals around the state,” said Danielle Hurd, RVT, event coordinator. “It allows us to branch out and become one while we all learn and teach about topics pertaining to our daily lives, all while being able to get the continuing education required for our licensure. We enjoy showing our appreciation and support to our referring veterinarians and staff.”

The CVM mules also made an appearance, hosting a meet and greet with Tim and Terry. Lizette Somer, the MU Raptor Rehabilitation Project manager, provided a talk about vultures and brought along Grimm, a rehabilitated turkey vulture, as an educational guide.

Donors included Royal Canin, Oxbow, the MU BSVT program, Treats Unleashed, all who provided raffle items to be given away at the event. Hill’s Pet Nutrition also provided breakfast and lunch to attendees.

Alongside Hurd, Matt Haight, RVT, and Mary Mcfillen, RVT, rounded out the coordinating team who organized and ran the continuing education event.
