Elizabeth Giuliano, DVM, MS, DACVO, professor of veterinary ophthalmology at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine, spoke as the first veterinary ophthalmologist at the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Annual Fall Scientific Symposium. Hosted in San Francisco on Nov. 3-4, the symposium brought together ASPORS members and non-members to learn more about new concepts, ideas, techniques, and research in oculofacial plastic surgery.
“It was a tremendous honor to represent the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists and the MU CVM at this physician ophthalmology meeting,” said Giuliano. “This speaking engagement provided an opportunity for veterinary and physician ophthalmologists to better understand the unique medical and surgical skills that are both shared and different between our two patient populations. It was an outstanding example of how both medical professions can benefit from the One Health association.”
Giuliano’s talk, delivered to the symposium’s approximately 1500 attendees, was titled “Comparative Eyelid and Orbital Surgical Conditions: The Veterinary Ophthalmology Experience.”
“I would like to thank ABVO leadership for their recommendation to the ASOPRS conference organizers that I serve as our college’s representative,” said Giuliano. “It was an incredible two-day experience, flush with high quality scientific abstracts, a robust exhibit hall and several in-depth advanced level talks. I felt extremely grateful for the warm reception I received from the attendees.”
