Ravi Barabote, PhD, has received the Advising Excellence Award – Faculty Advisor from NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising, recognizing his commitment to undergraduate student success.
Barabote, an associate teaching professor in the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine’s Department of Pathobiology and Integrative Biomedical Sciences, has served as the primary academic advisor for the undergraduate microbiology program since 2021. During that time, he has advised more than 150 students.
Barabote’s dedication to his students has consistently been recognized. In 2026, he was awarded the Excellence in Advising Award from the Mizzou Advisors Forum and Office of the Provost, as well as the Shout Out Award from the Mizzou Advisors Forum in 2024 for outstanding undergraduate student advising.
His approach to advising goes beyond helping students select courses. Barabote works individually with students to review their degree progress, identify opportunities that align with their goals and connect them with campus resources when needed. Through his advising, Barabote continues to be a positive influence on students while contributing to the College of Veterinary Medicine’s commitment to student success.
“Dr. Barabote’s impact on students has been transformative,” Brenda Beerntsen, PhD, professor and co-director of the microbiology program, wrote in her nomination. “He not only addresses their questions but directs them to appropriate resources to ensure their success. These activities demonstrate his care and eagerness to go the extra mile to help students.”
