Roman Ganta, PhD, Curators’ Distinguished Professor and McKee Endowed Professor in the Department of Pathobiology and Integrative Biomedical Sciences at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine, has been elected councilor representing the United States and Canada for the Society for Tropical Veterinary Medicine (STVM).
The international nonprofit organization brings together veterinarians, researchers and other professionals to advance tropical veterinary medicine, vaccine research, molecular diagnostics and global One Health initiatives. In his new role, Ganta will help strengthen international collaboration and advance the society’s mission to improve animal health worldwide.
“I am honored to serve as the elected councilor representing the USA and Canada for Society for Tropical Veterinary Medicine,” Ganta said. “At a time when shifting environments and rapid changes in demographics accelerate the spread of cross-border livestock diseases, STVM’s mission is vital. Moving forward, I will leverage my decades of research in vector-borne diseases impacting livestock and people, genomics, diagnostics and vaccine development to foster international scientific collaborations and mentor the next generation of global health leaders.”
Ganta’s appointment aligns with his extensive research in tick-borne infectious diseases affecting animals and humans. His work focuses on understanding disease-causing pathogens and developing strategies to prevent infections, including vaccine development.
