Tamara Hancock, DVM, MS, DACVP, PhD, an assistant teaching professor at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine, recently received the 2024 Wendy Coe Leadership Award from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. Hancock is a faculty member in the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology.
The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of veterinary medicine through exemplary service and leadership. Hancock was selected for her exceptional volunteer work in advancing veterinary pathology; specifically, the role she played in co-leading the Core Competencies Task Force. The task force developed the first-ever competency framework to guide the training of residents within a recognized veterinary specialty organization. Her dedication to enhancing veterinary education and fostering professional growth exemplify the spirit of leadership celebrated by the award.
“The ACVP is transforming their process of accrediting training programs, and it is incredible to be a part of this,” Hancock said. “While the framework we produced will ultimately be a living document that evolves as it is used and the field of pathology continues to grow, it was a tremendous honor to collaborate and have a hand in generating this inaugural iteration. I am grateful for the hard work and camaraderie of my co-chair, Amanda Beck, and all the members of the Task Force. This work and recognition should truly be shared among us.”
