Etiology: Psorergates simplex is the mange mite of mice.
Incidence: The incidence of infection with Psorergates simplex is rare.
Transmission: Transmission occurs by direct contact.
Distribution: Psorergates simplex mites are distributed on all parts of the body, although they may be most numerous over the head and neck. These mites invade the hair follicles.
Clinical signs: Clinical signs include multiple small white nodules (dermal pouches) with occasional scab formation.
Diagnosis: Diagnosis can be made by performing skin scrapings of affected areas. Mites may also be expressed from dermal pouches. All life stages may be found in one nodule.
