Accelerated BS to DVM degree: The accelerated option is available to qualified students to complete their degree requirements at an accelerated pace. Microbiology majors who enroll in the MU Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree program prior to receiving their baccalaureate degree can earn credits from courses in the professional curriculum as outlined below.
Coursework | Regular B.S. | Accelerated B.S. Option |
General Education Courses | ~27 credits | ~27 credits |
Microbiology Requirements | ~71 credits | ~55 credits |
Free Electives | ~22 credits | ~8 credits |
Credit from DVM Courses | ~15 elective credits (1st year) ~15 microbiology credits (2nd year) | |
Total credits (sum) | 120 credits | 120 credits |
Therefore, students who complete prescribed undergraduate courses in the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Department of Veterinary Pathobiology and are then successful in being selected to a class in the College of Veterinary Medicine, will receive elective credits concurrently for up to 32 hours of professional degree courses. This enables qualifying students to receive a BS degree with three or four years of undergraduate work and two years of professional studies. Thus, if all degree requirements are met, microbiology majors who enroll in Mizzou’s College of Veterinary Medicine prior to receiving their baccalaureate degree will be eligible to receive the B.S. in Microbiology degree at the end of their second year in the professional curriculum.
