The accelerated option allows for completion of both MU degrees typically in one year less than if each program were completed separately. Qualified students can earn certain credits from the professional curriculum for their undergraduate degree. Refer to the MU catalog for details on the degree requirements for each program. Students must apply to be admitted to the accelerated option. Students should consult with an advisor early on in the undergraduate process.
If all degree requirements are met, microbiology majors who enroll in the MU Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree program prior to receiving their baccalaureate degree will be eligible to receive the B.S. in Microbiology degree at the end of their second year in the professional curriculum. Students can receive approximately 30 credits from specified professional courses. This enables qualifying students to receive the B.S. in Microbiology degree with three years of undergraduate coursework and two years of professional coursework.
The following course substitutions for the required microbiology courses will be accepted:
- V_PBIO 5552 Veterinary Bacteriology and Mycology I and V_PBIO 5553 Veterinary Bacteriology and Mycology II for MICRO 3200 Medical Microbiology and Immunology
- V_PBIO 5511 Veterinary Immunology 1 and V_PBIO 5512 Veterinary Immunology 2 for V_PBIO 3551 Introduction to Immunology
- V_PBIO 5557 Veterinary Parasitology for V_PBIO 3345 Fundamentals of Parasitology
The following professional curriculum courses will be accepted as major electives:
