Specialty Internship in Small Animal Practice combined with Emergency/Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, or other specialty

The University of Missouri Veterinary Health Center (MU VHC) in conjunction with the Webster Groves Animal Hospital & Urgent Care Center (WGAH) of St. Louis, MO is soliciting applications for a one-year internship in small animal general practice, combined with small animal emergency/critical care, small animal surgery, small animal internal medicine, or other specialty.  This internship program begins in July. A research/teaching option in small animal surgery, small animal emergency and/critical care, or other available specialty for the university portion of the internship is also possible for the interested candidate. This internship is designed to prepare the intern for application to a residency in the candidate’s intended specialty while practicing high quality small animal medicine at a large multi-doctor private practice and rotating in the specialty of choice at the MU VHC.

At the WGAH, the intern will work three consecutive 12-hour full-service shifts (typically, Friday-Saturday-Sunday) every other week, and these shifts could be overnight. When not in St. Louis, structured exposure to the intern’s specialty of choice (Emergency/Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, or other available specialty) will be provided at the MU VHC. The ideal applicant is one who has at least one year of private practice experience or has completed a small animal rotating internship and who desires to pursue residency training upon completion of this specialty internship. Eligibility for a license to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Missouri is mandatory.  Maintaining a valid driver’s license for the duration of the program is required.

The program is restricted to United States Citizens, United States Permanent Residents (i.e. those holding a “Green Card”), or non-residents who have Employment Authorization from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service valid for the duration of the program. The School provides neither assistance for nor support for obtaining such Employment Authorization.  Our office does not sponsor H-1B, E-3, O-1 or J-1 visas or permanent residency applications for residents and interns. If you have questions regarding your immigration status and eligibility please contact the MU International Center at scholars@missouri.edu.

Applications are accepted annually from February 10th through February 28th. To apply, please e-mail a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, and list of three references to F. A. (Tony) Mann, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVS, Diplomate ACVECC: MannF@missouri.edu.  For additional information applicants may contact Dr. Mann via e-mail or at 573-882-7821. About Webster Groves Animal Hospital & Urgent Care Center

Webster Groves Animal Hospital & Urgent Care Center (WGAH) is a large 20+ doctor small animal practice located in St. Louis, Missouri.  Dr. Andrew Love founded WGAH, P.C. on May 31, 1965.  Initially, Dr. and Mrs. Love ran the practice themselves in a small, two-story building. In December 1981, the expanding number of patients and employees necessitated Dr. Love moving his practice to an adjacent site where it remained until August of 2003.

In 1984, WGAH was accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and joined an elite group of hospitals dedicated to providing pets with high quality medical care. The hospital also received AAHA referral accreditation for Feline and Canine Specialty in 2010 and Internal Medicine in 2013. By meeting AAHA standards for comprehensive professional services, WGAH confirms the high standards that have always been paramount in this practice.

Webster Groves Animal Hospital made its second move on August 18, 2003.  The new facility, at more than sixteen thousand square feet, has two floors large enough to house the ever-growing veterinary staff, which includes board-certified veterinary practitioners and a board-certified internist.  The new building, with two parking lots, a large reception area, and a community room for public meeting, offers convenience for our clients and patients.  To better serve our clients, we elected to be open 24 hours, 365 days a year on April 1, 2012.

Services offered at WGAH include: Small Animal Medicine, Small Animal Surgery and Dentistry, Internal Medicine, Urgent and Emergency Care, Laser Surgery, Digital Radiology, Ultrasound, Endoscopy, In-House Laboratory, Blood Pressure Monitoring, Reproductive Services, Boarding, Avian & Exotic Medicine, Emergency Power Generator, On-Line Pharmacy, and Obedience Training.

July of 2018 marked another milestone for WGAH with the opening of the Webster Groves Animal Wellness Center.  Our Wellness Center is located one block east of our main location and was formed with one goal in mind – providing exceptional wellness care in a relaxing and quiet environment.  Services include puppy and kitten initial exams and vaccination packages, annual health care packages, and overall routine wellness care.
