At least 60 credit hours of undergraduate courses are required to apply to enter the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. Fifty of the minimum required credit hours are specified (e.g. college algebra, physics, biochemistry, etc.) The remaining minimum of 10 credit hours must be in elective courses.
Elective courses considered to be pertinent to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine curriculum and a career in veterinary medicine are those in:

The MU College of Veterinary Medicine offers 1- to 4-credit-hour pre-veterinary elective courses online in the fall semester, spring semester and summer session. The course program designator is BIOMED. Courses are 100 percent online and do not require synchronous online attendance. Therefore, students may take the online courses when it best fits into their weekly schedule without scheduling conflicts with other courses or employment responsibilities. Travel to class costs are also avoided. Online BIOMED course are offered only online.

Academic Rigor
Online BIOMED course rigor is equivalent to that of traditional room-bound classes. It is estimated that online and study time for a 3-credit-hour on-line course taken over a semester will require 6 to 9 clock hours per week. Exams are proctored online. All BIOMED courses are approved by MU Quality Matters criteria for online courses or in the process of MU Quality Matters evaluation.
Course Suitability
Students should consult with their academic advisor on the suitability of online elective courses relative to their undergraduate degree requirements. Although online BIOMED courses are accepted toward a portion of the requirements to apply to the MU College of Veterinary Medicine, they may not be acceptable courses in the requirements to gain an undergraduate degree.
